Comment by Nathan Parker on March 19, 2012 at 11:12pm Updates on Backyard TV: We are working with Kory to get the custom SevereStudios player, and we should have it up soon. In the meantime, we have a USTREAM player up on this site so users can tune in to our live streams now. Our producer is also getting accustomed to our equipment and ironing out the kinks before we really go with this. :-)
Once we have Kory's SevereStudios-based player in place, we will swap out the USTREAM player with his since it will be higher quality and more reliable. However, we will include the USTREAM player on a separate page (easily accessible), so that users browsing our site on non-Silverlight based machines (like mobile devices) can still tune to our live stream by accessing the USTREAM page. Users can also download the USTREAM mobile app onto their devices and access our live stream on the go that way. We will be simultaneously broadcasting all shows to both streams once in place so we can have the best of both worlds: highest quality streams for desktop users and fully accessible streams for mobile users. We'll also be recording all our shows and featuring our favorites as archives on the Backyard Video Gallery.
For the next little bit, you'll mostly be hearing from Johnathan Williamson on air, and mostly for severe weather events. We will have a set of guidelines, a signup/audition form, and a rundown of scheduled live shows coming soon. We're also working on brand new graphics (some of which you've had a sampling of so far, but more's on the way!) and have some other new surprises along the way. Stay tuned for more!
