Welcome to California Weather!

Welcome to the California Weather Group!  Up here in the Sierra Nevada where my station is located, we are known for our dramatic and very changeable weather, as well as our great scenery.

Although I started this group, I am by no means going to act as the moderator. I only started it because I wasn't able to find any existing groups that focused on the Sierra Nevada region, and I know that we have a lot of WeatherBug users who live here or travel up to our mountain communities on their vacations.

Now that Weather Bug is focusing on state-wide weather groups instead of regional groups, I would also like to invite all the station operators in California to share their station histories and weather stories with the rest of us!

We have also included a feed from our own Bass Lake weather cam which is updated every 2 minutes during daylight hours. Weather data from the station is overlayed on the camera image 24 hours a day and is also updated every 2 minutes.

Cheers!

Rick.

We managed to pick up 0.17 inches of precipitation earlier today as the low pressure trough quickly moved through our area.  The bulk of this precipitation arrived in the form of snow flurries and ice pellets with temps hovering in the mid to upper 30s.

The contrast in weather between yesterday and today has been striking with an over 30 degree drop in daytime highs in the last 24 hours.

Cold and windy on Tuesday with temps only in the 50's along with a 40% chance of rain.  Gale warnings have been posted along the coast.  Should be fun.

Hi Harold!

Yep!  We are tracking the approaching sytem and are hopeful that we will get some respectable precipitation from this one.   The system on Monday dove to our south and we only picked up 0.10 worth of liquid equivilant from about an inch of snow.

The NWS is predicting a little more from this next one and BOY do we ever need it!  This is the driest February on record here with only 1.51 inches for the entire month even after the last system came through.  Our average for Feb. is 9.50 inches.  Our seasonal total here at the station is only 10.68 inches with our normal seasonal total by this date well over 50 inches.

While this next storm is certainly welcome, it is hardly the kind of winter blockbuster we normally would be seeing this time of year.

Thanks for the info and hope to hear back from you soon!  :o)

Cheers.
