Comment by Rick Schwartz on October 30, 2012 at 5:02pm Given Sandy's intensity, scope, overall effects, explosive development and track, as well as being the second hurricane to make landfall in New Jersey in consecutive seasons (and in almost the same spot as Hurricane Irene!),it is unique in Mid-Atlantic hurricane annals for at least the past 400 years. I guess I'll have to add a new section for Sandy when I revise my book, Hurricanes and the Middle Atlantic States.
Incidentally, I recorded a storm peak gust of 65 mph at my Alexandria, VA, home and 6.25 inches rainfall as of noon on Tuesday.
Comment by mike malley on October 29, 2012 at 4:13pm Rain has stopped as has the wind--Highest wind so far has been 17mph--Everyone be safe--------------------
