Typhoon Pablo hit the Philippines recently. A friend of mine took pics of the damage. Here they are:

Given Sandy's intensity, scope, overall effects, explosive development and track, as well as being the second hurricane to make landfall in New Jersey in consecutive seasons (and in almost the same spot as Hurricane Irene!),it is unique in Mid-Atlantic hurricane annals for at least the past 400 years. I guess I'll have to add a new section for Sandy when I revise my book, Hurricanes and the Middle Atlantic States.

Incidentally, I recorded a storm peak gust of 65 mph at my Alexandria, VA, home and 6.25 inches rainfall as of noon on Tuesday.

6 O'clock and all is well. The wind has increased to a sustained speed of 40+ mph, had trouble standing by the wall. Now have low tide, next high tide, 12 midnight.

Rain has stopped as has the wind--Highest wind so far has been 17mph--Everyone be safe--------------------

High tide has come and gone with the waves splashing over the sea wall. The wind has picked up and got this photo, the highest I saw today.

Kevin Shaw from Gaithersburg Maryland reporting from home.
Hanging in there. Still have power.
My friend Marty Brumback called me earlier on his cell phone from southern Maryland as he just lost power a few hours ago. He put out 2 snowboards in the hopes we get some snow on the backside of the system, I saw a video report from Snowshoe WV and they already had a few inches of wet snow on the ground earlier today with the snow still coming down.
Temp is now at 48.1 at 3:18 PM My baro press is now down to 29.06" and still falling rapidly. So far I have 2.69" of rain in the VP2 gauge since midnight. PWG a modest 29 MPH so far at 3:11 PM. Wind and rain has been steady. Max rain rate so far is 0.80" at 2:03 PM.

Honkered down, not really looking forward to the loss of power at all. My cell phone is charged up pretty well, and I have plenty of batteries for my weather radios, but don't really have a regular battery powered radio except in my car. I might try and run out to Radio Shack and buy one.

Hope to give more updates later, but not really optimistic on doing that for much longer with the looming power loss.

It's 10 am and my handheld wind meter's battery died. Still, we're back in business. Water is splashing over the sea wall and the highest reading was in excess of 31 mph.

High tide is at 11.30 am at 10.4 ft. With the surge, no idea where it will go. cheers

It's 11.00pm just about 20 minutes before high tide and the waves are close to the top of the granite wall but not yet to the top of the concrete. Saw winds in excess of 25 mph with driving rain.

I have a friend that has made the illadvised decision to ride out Sandy in their Long Island home. Am allready hearing reports from them that they are having problems with storm surge!
