Hey guys,

I've got a question for our programmers (posting it here instead of email so I get a public response) concerning alerts in WeatherBug 7. Are we issuing alerts for people based on counties or based on polygons? I hope we're using the more accurate polygon alerts instead of the older country alerts. Polygon alerts are far more effective and results in fewer "false positives" during severe weather. As a great meteorologist (James Spann) says, "In times like these, respect the polygon!".

Thanks!

Good question. We have been using polygon alerts instead of counties for 5 or 6 years now. We only alert the zip codes within the polygon.

Great. Nice to know! Definitely more accurate than the "old alerts".

Status updated on my weather backyard for new weather bug 7 report yet? :P I really want on there bad lol.

Chris S, do you have an update? I haven't heard anything from our teams yet. I know people are eager to try it. :-)

Polygram alerts seem better and effective imo.

Chris

They definitely are. Much better!

i'm just shocked how any programer can make them set up properly with the latitudes and longitudes polygrams...

I think we're using Zip Codes, but Lat/Lon has been done in some apps!

I've been doing "distance from my location" given lat/long for lightning warnings for over 10 years.

If you're not worried about precision to fractions of a percent, it's only a couple of lines of code if you have "event lat/long" and "observer lat/long".

Nice. GREAT input.

wow zip code alerts....lots of programming there in my view...zip code/lat-long is ok to me.
