The Official WeatherBug Community
Hello and welcome WeatherBug Backyard Community! Thank you for downloading and test-driving our new Limited Release WeatherBug Desktop 7.0 application.
Please use this forum to tell us the issues you've had, comments (both negative & positive) and any suggestions you have to make WeatherBug Desktop 7.0 the best desktop solution for your weather needs!
Be sure that we will read each and every comment and use them as we work to make WeatherBug Desktop 7.0 better! Thank you!
I posted this in another page to answer someone's question but wanted to post it again here just to reiterate it.
WeatherBug 7 currently doesn't have a Plus (Elite) version yet. What I'm trying to do with our teams is get them to ditch Plus codes entirely on WeatherBug 7 Elite. They're a real pain and only gum up our support lines. Instead, I'd like to move the WeatherBug 7 Elite activation and the Backyard Stations registration page and tie it into the Backyard Community. Then what would happen in WeatherBug 7, is you would "signin" to WeatherBug 7 with your Backyard Community ID. It would automatically check to see if a Backyard Station is registered and sending data to us. If so, instantly you get a free WeatherBug 7 Elite as long as the data to your station keeps flowing to us. For everyone else, they'd be presented with the ability to activate WeatherBug 7 Elite though the new store through the Backyard Community. We'd also have to find a way to transfer existing subscriptions over, but it wouldn't be hard and in the longrun make life easier for everyone.
wondering if there will be a Chromebook app for this?
Good news is we already do! We have an app that runs on Chrome/Chromebooks. It's neat and fun. We need to add Backyard Stations and a few things to it, but the basics are there, and it's a lot of fun to use. If you have Chrome, give it a spin.
The last post I see in this section dates back in December 2012.... Am curious to know where Weatherbug 7 and/or 7-Elite development stands--along with all of the various user comment implementation.... I saw lots of agreement on the comments, but have not seen nor heard anything with regards to any updates.
I'd like to add another comment to the mix, too: County overlays to the Bing Radar Map(s). Presently, there are only weather-related items that can be turned on and off, but I'd like to be able to control the roads that seem to be permanently visible (and really wish they weren't--but at least if one could choose whether they were visible or not would be a good compromise), but what I really desire is for one to also enable/disable the county boundaries. It's easier for me to determine where my residence "sits" with respect to the "shape" of my county (if I could see the boundaries, that is). The roads necessary to get to my house are too minor to even appear on the map as it is, anyhow. Therefore, the roads that do appear are of no signficant value to me--and certainly do not help me 'pinpoint' any locations of interest. In my case, the roads that are shown simply result in unnecessary clutter.
Basically, I would like more granularity on what I am afforded the ability to "see" as it relates to the Radar Map--to include those elements not necessarily directly weather-related.
Would like to know when an update might be forthcoming. I think it's been a "long enough" Limited Release period....
Thanks in advance, and hope all is well.
I agree with the last post. The lack of progressive updates, or simply reaching "gold" status is puzzling. Is anyone working on WeatherBug 7? Even Microsoft can crank out a new operating system every few years, the WeatherBug UI can't be THAT complex. There are no posts of updates and what's being worked on. Fixes or changes. What's worse, the audio/chirp alarm doesn't work and hasn't worked for over a year. What's going on here? I'm losing faith in what I thought was an awesome product. My Android phone has a better WeatherBug interface, and it's updated twice in the last year, at least!
Here's what our desktop teams told me.
Thank you so much for your feedback and support. We are working to make improvements to our desktop app and expect to have some updates this summer. Be on the lookout!
Additional side note: I sent over 20 pages worth of feedback and design changes to our desktop teams personally doing my best to assist with the design stages of our desktop app, and they're looking over my report as we speak. I'm also going to do the same for web and mobile later this year. If our teams can implement a lot of my feedback, we'll have a really run desktop app coming up. :-)
One more thing. One of our biggest setbacks lately was infrastructure changes. We've been migrating all our infrastructure to a cloud hosting facility to prepare the groundwork for future products and services. There's a lot of fun stuff we want to be able to rollout down the road, but doing so under our existing infrastructure would have been costly, painful, and offered not as good performance as we can with the cloud. We've been working overtime with the infrastructure changes, and we finally got most of it wrapped up. See this video for more details:
So we have been working hard, but most of the changes we're doing are all under the hood on things you won't see right away, but we're preparing a solid foundation for the future so we can deliver more exciting products and services all over incredible performance and reliability.
That might explain why clicking "More Observations" (at least in the shipping client--I haven't had 7.0 for a while) has resulted in this error page for at least the last couple weeks: "The page you requested can not be accessed at this time. Please try again later.
I didn't know where else to report this.
