Weather update for West Rockville Maryland on Saturday February 18, 2017

Posted on February 19, 2017 at 4:22am 0 Comments

Saturday was the first in a series of warm days for this time of the year. It was sunny and the sun really worked to warm our area after a near frosty morning that helped give most stations large diurnal ranges (the difference between the high and low temp for the day) of 35° to 45° + in the region. Tonight temps…

Friday was the start of a major warming trend that will predominate the local weather scene all weekend and then extend into all of the following week to just about close out the shortest month of the year on a possibly record-breaking note. We had plenty of sun today, with temps reaching to just about the 50°…

Weather update for West Rockville Maryland on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2017

Posted on February 15, 2017 at 4:38am 0 Comments

Tuesday started out chilly in the very early AM, then moderated in the later AM as clouds moved in, and snow fell in scattered locations in the region according to radar, though I am not sure how much of it reached the ground. Then milder temperatures with sun predominated most of the afternoon. Winds relaxed…

Hi Kevin

Well the web site down for now due to limited web usage going thru an hot spot wifi. Once I get the data bytes usage  down then will be looking at doing the site again. I started sending data to WB and on WU you can find me as KAKSALCH2. Mesowest  should start having me as DW1453.  Not sure  how  to find me on WB as I use  Weather Display and I just hit the hot button to jump to it

Take care

john

Thanks for the reply.  I have not been posting, mostly because I have not had or taken the time.

Thanks for the information on finding things on Weatherbug. I need to spend more time there and learn what all is going on.

We operate our company lout of the home/office. I am interested in weather, and do storm watch for the county as part of our ARES group of Ham Radio Operators.

Today we are having a series of showers, and possibility of more storm tonight. We made a quick trip to three of the local lakes this morning to look at levels and check on crop damage from the previous high water last week.

The following site will tell a bit about our work, http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/tech/science/2005-09-05-csi-for-plants_x.htm

Stay in contact,

Kevin, until you contacted me, I had no idea this part of WB was here.

It sounds like our winter has been a lot 'nicer' than the one you have been having downstates. Too bad we can't trade...we could use three or four feet more of snow.

Thanks for the offer of friendship.

Kevin, Actually the weather front passed through back on May 27, 2012.

I have a heater for my VP2 but I'm not convinced how well it works well for snow.  I may get that CoCoRah gauge to use for snow then I'll be able to compare the two.  You seemed to indicate you could edit the WU data.  How do you do that?  I only see an option to delete entries, not to edit them.

Orionis is a derivative of Orion, the constellation which is one of my favorites.  My observatory (shown in one of my weather photos) is strictly for astronomical observing with my telescope; nothing to do with weather.  It's just that it is also in my backyard so I used it to name my weather station.

I put the stainless steel needle collar on when I set the station up and have never had a bird perch/crap in the rain gauge.  They do perch right next to it on the top of the post, but that of course causes no problem.

Not sure what you mean by the archiving question.  My software (WeatherCat for Mac) archives everything on my computer.  You can also look back in time on WU for daily readings, at least to Aug 2011 when I established the station.

I also report under CWOP.  My station site is DW8300

Yes, I'm also on WU as  Orionis Observatory-KMDMIDDL9

My station is the Orionis Observatory.  Yellow Backyard dot on NE side of Middletown.
