Consider the following, excerpted from my book, Hurricanes and the Middle Atlantic States:
September 30, 1959. 4:30 p.m. Just south of Ivy, Virginia, west of Charlottesville.
The Morris family sheltered from a terrific squall in their two-story frame house. A tornado approached with a sound like a freight train. It demolished the residence, hurling occupants in all directions. Within moments, 10 people died. A neighbor, Lilly Bruce, also perished.
Good morning...Fall is definitely making its presence felt!!!
Low pressure centered over southeast Canada will continue to circulate cold air southward across the Great Lakes bringing cloudy, cool, and showery weather to much of Pennsylvania today. It really feels it this morning. Moisture drawn from the Great Lakes will result in the most numerous showers over western sections. A downsloping westerly flow on the lee side of the Appalachians will result in less numerous showers… Continue

Eyeyeyeyeyeyeye -- it is 56 degrees at 2pm -- feels like minus-20 because of a shock to the system! We had a beautiful 80-degree day on Sunday (great for the Broadway Art Festival!) and now we're dealing with a high of 56-ish. The humidity is 61% right now, but it feels damper... Barometer steady, so no real rain expected -- radar is completely clear.
