Fog to Start Our Day - Mid Michigan

Our morning is beginning with dense fog although the sun is making a showing and burning it off quite rapidly.  It is shaping up to be a very nice day.  Yesterday we received a total of 0.65" of rain which was badly needed.  I have some columbine plants which were given to me by a friend and haven't been…

Cloudy/Wet For Mid Michigan

We didn't see any sun yesterday nor did we see any rain. The dopplar appeared that we were getting showers but none made it to the ground. This morning is much milder than what we have had thanks to the overnight cloud cover. Our low remained above freezing for the first time in quite a few days.

CONDITIONS @ 9:30 AM:

37°F / Overcast

Overnight Low: 34°F

Yesterday's High: 47°F

Holy smokes! Last night's storm from a marine perspective

Last night from the boat I got to experience the storm(s). I was on Navy Pier in downtown Chicago and we heard the tornado sirens go off (in downtown Chicago!) several times. The rain was so heavy that you could not see the buildings in downtown from Navy Pier. Then the wind picked up... It blew so hard that we actually took on water from around the windows on the boat - this just doesn't happen! Somebody said we got up to around 70 mph winds - and not just gusts, but flat-out wind. Oddly… Continue

Still Raining In Mid-Michigan

As we remain on the back side of the low pressure center to our SE, our cloudy, drizzly weather continues for another day. The showers are moving in at us from the NE but they appear to be thinning out a bit. Yesterday we received .13 inches of rain and there is no more snow left. I'm still waiting to see if we get slammed toward the end of the month with a major snow event, but so…

New Electives at school

Click for Ypsilanti, Michigan Forecast

It's Q3 at school, and I'm happy that one of my new electives is Nature's Fury, a Natural Disaster class, in the class, we might learn about Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Volcanos, Tornados, Floods, Blizzards, etc. Every Friday we will also be watching a pair of Storm Stories from TWC, I think that's cool. At the end of the Quarter, I think the movie we'll be watching is The Day After… Continue

A Bright Morning in Mid-Michigan

It seem good to see the sun first thing in the morning, especially when the temps aren't expected to get above freezing. This past year has certainly been a strange one for weather, from the triple digits this past summer in the Pacific Northwest to the freezing cold and snow in the deep south. Now yesterday California had a tornado. How strange is that? But here in Michigan we continue to have our usual boring weather . . . . I guess I shouldn't… Continue

More Of The Same in Mid-Michigan

Our weather forecasts are becoming a bit redundant and there hasn't been much change in the past few days. The temps can't seem to get above the freezing mark so we continue to have the crusty snow and ice. One must be careful when walking because it can be very slippery. Our expected January thaw seemed to have passed us by and we only had about 2 good days of actual melting. But now they are saying that this weekend will be warm so hopefully they'll… Continue

A Cloudy Saturday Morning in Mid-Michigan

This is day 3 of our January thaw and we have lost most of our snow. My guess is that we still have about 1.5 to 2 inches on the ground, but it is hard to measure due to the piles from snowblowing. The warm temps are expected to continue through this upcoming week so I don't expect any of it to last long. This morning we have cloudy skies, our 9AM temp is 29.5°F with the humidity at 80%. The wind is out of the SW at 8 mph making our wind chill 22°F.… Continue

Our January Thaw Begins Today in Mid-Michigan

Today we are beginning what appears to be a prolonged period of above freezing temps. This weather is expected to remain even into the latter part of next week. The deer have been coming into our yard and digging for food. I'm sure that they'll be happy that the snow will be melting. In fact, so will the birds. They've been emptying my bird feeder almost every day and they stage quite a protest when it need filling. I'll just be glad to have the snow… Continue

A Rainy Christmas Day in Mid-Michigan

First, I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! I hope that this Holiday doesn't find you stranded somewhere because of the weather, and that you reach your chosen destinations safely. As for us, we will just stay home today since my family is all home this year. I was able to make it to Mass this morning which made me very happy. Our freezing rain began yesterday afternoon about 3:30 PM. This was about 6 hours before the forecast said we… Continue

Where's That Sun?

We were supposed to have sun yesterday afternoon and all day today . . . . so where is it? It hasn't been around here for 2 days although I heard that Detroit has a beautiful day yesterday. Right now (10:00 AM), we have clouds and fog. Our temp is 49.1F, the humidity is 100%, the barometer is 30.10 and steady, and winds are out of the east at 8 mph. This will probably be our last warm, calm day for a while. We are expecting blustery weather starting tomorrow and through Saturday. I hope that… Continue
