WeatherBug Backyard Community

The Official WeatherBug Community

Several months ago while chatting with Nathan, it became evident there was need for some way to get information out of the davis weatherstations that didn't require a dedicated PC, or leaving your computer running 24/7.

Nathan also indicated that his weatherstations were equipped with an interface that published his station information directly to the Davis WeatherLink site. Unfortunately the hardware aparantly isn't able to send to other sites as well. So I wrote (that afternoon) a utility to collect his data and publish it to WeatherBug. This worked spectacularly well, Nathan couldn't believe how quick and easy it was, and asked about publishing to PWS as well.

Sure, this isn't anything new - there are applications out there to do this - but the feature of mine is that it's completely hands-off. You don't need any more equipment, you don't need to leave your computer running, you don't need to change, reconfigure, install anything.

Apart from Nathan and I, are there any others here who would be interested in access to the system??

Odd. I've just had a look at the logs. Each of the users getting wunderground reports are showing the same, so I'll just show the results for one of you...

The word "success" is what I actually get back from wunderground....  Nathan, how well do you get on with the guys over there? Wonder if they have any indication from their system why it's not taking the data?

Mine's doing it too. Usually every 5 minutes, but sometimes it does it every 10-15 instead.

Comment by Nathan Parker on September 22, 2012 at 2:58pm

Someone else is reporting that too. I need to check my test feed to and see what it's doing.

I noticed it now reports quicker than every 15 minutes, but it appears to be erratic.  http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KI... show it posting 5 minutes sometimes, 10 minutes other times, and almost 15 minutes at other times...all since changing.  It is better than always posting every 15 minutes, but I thought I'd point it out to you just in case.

Ok, scratch that.  I just refreshed your page, and it suddenly had them all being successful.  Must have been a glitch with the software or weatherbug.

Ross, I added WUnderground to your script and removed it from Weatherlink, as I think reporting every 5 minutes is much more desireable than reporting every 15 minutes.  After I entered the information and hit refresh, I noticed it gave me an error for Weatherbug as follows even though I changed nothing.  Any ideas?  Below is the error.

WeatherLink Republisher

Checking data!

Reading from WeatherLink

OK, received data.

  Writing to WeatherBug

FAILED -

  Writing to PWS

OK. Data Logged and posted in METAR mirror.

  Writing to Wunderground

OK. success

Received an email from a fellow WeatherBugger who has just started using this script and asked about WUnderground. Well, I thought davis already pushed data there, but it appears the data is only pushed every 15 minutes. I've just added WUnderground to the RePublisher for anyone else who wishes to try it. (It's the new section in green). Couple of users trying it so far report it seems to be ok - but any feedback, testing etc, would be appreciated.

Yep, computers have to know things precise. Computers don't understand the language of "almost". :-)
