0.5.2 LWC Web Data Uploader now available - for WeatherCat only

Dear WeatherBug Mac users,

Thanks to the diligent work of Stuart Ball (the developer of WeatherCat), there is now a new version the LWC Web Data Uploader that can be used to upload weather station data to WeatherBug.   You can download the latest version here:

http://www.canebas.org/LWC/AppleScripts/LWC%20Web%20Data%20Uploader...

This new version submits monthly rainfall data as noted in version 1.4 of the WeatherBug upload API.

Previous users of this script will need to copy the configuration information from the old script to the new version.  The easiest way to do this is to open the old script with the AppleScript Editor, copy the configuration information, and paste it in the corresponding "empty" configuration section of the new version.  As noted in the documentation, be careful to avoid corrupting the AppleScript when modifying configuration settings.

As noted in discussions elsewhere on WeatherBug, this new version of the script will run on WeatherCat only!  Support for Lightsoft Weather Center (LWC) has been discontinued with this release of the script.  This was necessary because the monthly rainfall data was not available to AppleScripts under LWC.  An extension has been provided by Stuart Ball to allow this script to query WeatherCat to obtain this number. There was no other way to get this data.

Therefore existing users of the LWC Web Data Uploader script are asked to either upgrade to WeatherCat or discontinue submitting data to WeatherBug as it no longer meets the WeatherBug submission criteria.  WeatherCat can be downloaded for free while it remains in public beta.  The public beta is expected to last through the end of March.

For more information on this AppleScript extension, please go the following topic on the MacWeather forum.

Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,

Edouard Lagache

Hi Nathan,

Sorry you were bitten by a bug of the flu variety.  Glad you are now registered and should be getting your hands on WeatherCat soon.

Let me know if you have a problems putting all the pieces together.

Cheers, Edouard

Sounds great. I'll tinker around with it this weekend. What I'd like to do is shoot a screencast of it and post it on our site and send it to you as well that outlines how to send data to our network using the script. That way people can see it in action.

Hi Nathan and WeatherBug community,

To use my script to upload data to WeatherBug you need to get two different packages.  First you need the WeatherCat software itself.  Right now WeatherCat is still in public beta, so anyone can download a copy to evaluate.  To download a copy, first register on the WeatherCat support forum.  Once registered, you can download a beta.  At this time, the latest beta can be found on this posting: WeatherCat 0.9.5 Build 235 (Beta 4) Now Available.  Once you have WeatherCat, you'll then need the AppleScript that does the actual uploading.  It can be found on my LWC Web Resources webpage (sorry, it is now little dated.)  The script you need is the LWC Data Uploader script.

As noted, this is "hobbyist grade" scripting.  Users are expected to do some tinkering with AppleScript to make them work as the parameters are inserted into the script using the AppleScript Editor itself.  This isn't really any more difficult than entering values into a dialog box, but it is a different experience that takes some getting used to.  There are detailed instructions on how to install the scripts and customize them.  My goal is to further upgrade the user-interface on these AppleScripts but progress has been painfully slow.

Hope that's sufficient for you Nathan and others to give WeatherCat and LWC Data Uploader a try.

Cheers, Edouard

I'm ready to beta test WC and your script tomorrow. Do I just need to go to Trixology and download WC, then download your script?
