If we can't escape winter, then we may as well be resourceful and make the most of it. That is exactly what the town of Frankenmuth does each January with it's snow and ice sculpture festival. Houghton, in Michigan's upper peninsula, also has a similar festival but the art work is the result of talented Michigan Tech students who do the carvings and a wonderful job at that. But one must be able to tolerate the cold weather in order to view them. Hopefully the warmup that is expected next week won't do too much damage after all the work that has gone into them.
We have had a few passing snow showers today but not much in additional accumulation. The forecast is calling for 1-3 inches total for us. Right now (2 PM EST), our temp is 25.2ºF (-3.8ºC), the humidity is 50%, and the barometer is 30.04 and falling. Winds are from the south at 10 mph and the dew point is 12ºF (-11.1ºC). The record high for today's date is 65ºF (18.3ºC) set in 1950, and the record low is -16ºF (-26.7ºC) set in 2004.
