But thankfully all that snow is now plaguing the near continent (with Sweden, Denmark and Germany being the worst affected). For us in the UK, it's now back to a normal winter (with wind and rain sweeping in from the Atlantic)

Hans, you are indeed quite right. According to Weather Underground, it had a central pressure of some 930 mb (the record is 913 mb) and I shall be talking about that storm a little later today
Harry, just watched the forecast on TV. Seems there is a "monster" Low Pressure (27.7") in the North Atlantic heading your way. Appears to be indicating rain, rain and more rain. Take care, cheers
Comment by Patricia Arline Murphy on January 26, 2013 at 9:07am Harry, I'm happy to hear things are getting back to a near normal for your area. Unfortunately, for the most part, our 'normal' winter is closer to what you folks considered unusual, cold and snowy. Although, to be honest, lately we've been sliding in under the radar for most of the bad stuff. At least, in my little corner of this world. Not that this will be something we should count on, but it's something we are grateful for. At any rate, hope the worst of the winter is behind you for this season.
