The Official WeatherBug Community
Several months ago while chatting with Nathan, it became evident there was need for some way to get information out of the davis weatherstations that didn't require a dedicated PC, or leaving your computer running 24/7.
Nathan also indicated that his weatherstations were equipped with an interface that published his station information directly to the Davis WeatherLink site. Unfortunately the hardware aparantly isn't able to send to other sites as well. So I wrote (that afternoon) a utility to collect his data and publish it to WeatherBug. This worked spectacularly well, Nathan couldn't believe how quick and easy it was, and asked about publishing to PWS as well.
Sure, this isn't anything new - there are applications out there to do this - but the feature of mine is that it's completely hands-off. You don't need any more equipment, you don't need to leave your computer running, you don't need to change, reconfigure, install anything.
Apart from Nathan and I, are there any others here who would be interested in access to the system??
Edited: for future and ongoing reference, the script entry page is http://weather.albury.net.au/weatherlink/

I believe that for about a year or so Nathan has been talking of an impending change at Weatherbug, so hopefully it will eventually come and get faster!
Comment by Ross Wheeler on May 11, 2013 at 9:37pm Matt: I had never used the site either, but as a result of requests here I had to look and figure out what it wanted. I had to create a login just to know what information I needed in order to submit data.
The resources their site takes are mainly just "time" - but that's the rub. Submitting data every 5 minutes to the other sites means I have to be completely finished everything before I start again.
pws and wunderground are both nice and quick - typically 300-400ms.
Weatherbug is very slow - excessively so - at around 4500 to 5500ms.
WOW is highly eratic, generally under 3000 but sometimes 10,000 to 15,000ms.

Comment by Nathan Parker on May 11, 2013 at 8:44pm Just signed up too and working now! This should be fun. Even though it's more of a UK site, hey, any new weather site I can test data sending to is fun. Thanks again Ross for the wonderful work!
I've never used WOW before today as I'm sure you can tell. So if publishing my data to WOW is too much of a hassel for you, please feel free to stop it. It isn't all that important to me since it is more of a UK thing.
That fixed it. The WOW website never tells me the user ID. I only knew my username and password. If you hadn't told me where to find the number I never would have found it!
Comment by Ross Wheeler on May 11, 2013 at 6:33pm Matt, I looked back in the logs to see if there was anything, and you appear to have attempted to use
wowid=d*******coop (should be a purely numeric field, I think 8 digits)
wowpin=N******12 (should be a purely numeric field, a 6 digit number)
Please try again with the right details, it *should* be working fine.
Comment by Ross Wheeler on May 11, 2013 at 5:47pm What's the error? I entered Jim's before, and it's submitting fine, as is my own.
The SiteID is the number in brackets after your station name.
The PIN is the 6-digit number you choose and enter.
I got the webpage to work, but when I enter it on Ross' website, it gives an error. I tried it with my user/pass and with my user/pin. (I'm assuming the pin you are asking for is the 6 digit one it asked me to submit when making my page on their site?)
Comment by Ross Wheeler on May 11, 2013 at 5:43pm Yeah, it's not "obvious" - use the username/password, log in, it shows your station info and the ID in brackets.
You need to enter your pin - it doesn't assign you one.
I just signed up for a WOW account. It gave me a username and password, but not an ID. I tried repeatedly to create a "site" but the page would just reload and not give me any errors. I emailed them to see what they say.
